Place of Performance: W.G. "Bill" Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1601 Brenner Avenue, Salisbury, NC 28144.
Schedule:Full-Time. Hours may vary based on contract requirements and operational needs. The CHESP shall provide support during assigned shifts and be available to conduct inspections, quality reviews, and management oversight as required.
Summary:
The Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) is responsible for overseeing and supporting environmental services operations within the W.G. "Bill" Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The CHESP provides technical guidance to ensure healthcare cleaning practices, infection prevention measures, quality assurance processes, and environmental sanitation standards are consistently maintained. This position supports contract compliance by assisting management with operational oversight, quality inspections, staff guidance, and continuous process improvement.
Requirements:
- Current Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) certification issued by the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE) or an equivalent nationally recognized credential.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in healthcare environmental services, housekeeping management, or environmental services supervision within a hospital or healthcare facility.
- Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention practices, healthcare cleaning standards, and environmental sanitation procedures.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, chemical safety requirements, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Ability to conduct quality inspections, identify deficiencies, implement corrective actions, and maintain inspection documentation.
Duties:
- Provide technical oversight and guidance for healthcare environmental services operations in accordance with contract requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections to verify cleaning quality, sanitation standards, and compliance with established procedures.
- Assist supervisors in resolving environmental services issues and implementing corrective actions when deficiencies are identified.
- Monitor cleaning practices to support infection prevention objectives and maintain a safe healthcare environment.
- Review quality control records, inspection reports, and performance documentation to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Support management by providing technical expertise, staff coaching, and recommendations that promote continuous quality improvement throughout environmental services operations.
