Position Title: Orthodox Service Music Director.

Job Type: Part-Time

Location: Kapaun Chapel, Ramstein Area, Germany

Requirements: The Candidate shall have:

  1. A minimum of one (1) year of experience serving as an Orthodox Church Music Director or Lead Cantor, or a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a member of an Orthodox worship choir.

  2. Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting vocal scores, including Byzantine and Orthodox liturgical music.

  3. The ability to select, arrange, and present music consistent with the liturgical traditions, style, and worship atmosphere of the Orthodox Church.

  4. The ability to sight-read and perform standard hymns, anthems, and special solo music appropriate for Orthodox worship services.

  5. The musical competence to accompany congregational singing and choir participation in a manner suitable for Orthodox liturgical worship.

  6. Availability to be physically present for major holy days and chapel events, including but not limited to Advent/Christmas and Lent/Holy Week/Easter.

  7. The ability to arrive a minimum of ten (10) minutes prior to scheduled services to prepare for worship in a timely and professional manner.

  8. An understanding of and commitment to compliance with copyright laws governing religious music and published materials.

Duties: The Candidate must:
  1. Provide musical leadership and directorship for the Orthodox Chapel community at Kapaun Chapel during all scheduled worship services.
  2. Lead congregational singing and provide vocal Byzantine Orthodox music during Holy Liturgy, Vespers, special holidays, feast days, and other approved services as required.
  3. Ensure all music performed aligns with the liturgical standards, traditions, and worship practices of the Orthodox Church.
  4. Provide musical directorship for a minimum of one (1) rehearsal and two (2) worship services each week.
  5. Support and perform music for special services, including but not limited to memorial services, funeral services, combined services, faith-specific holidays, and chapel-sponsored special events.
  6. Coordinate and collaborate with the Chaplain regarding music selection, worship planning, and service execution.
  7. Assist the Chaplain or designated representative, as appropriate, in developing the annual calendar of events, Chapel Tithes and Offerings Fund (CTOF) budget, Appropriated Fund (APF) budget, and volunteer training requirements related to music programs.
  8. Provide properly arranged, improved, and scored music as necessary to support the specific worship service or chaplain program function.
  9. Provide Audio/Visual (A/V) lyric support, including PowerPoint slides or equivalent formats, for worship services as required.
  10. Recruit, organize, and oversee volunteers supporting the Orthodox music program.
  11. Ensure all government-owned music, scores, and equipment are properly safeguarded and returned upon completion of contractual services.
  12. Refrain from unauthorized duplication or reproduction of copyrighted materials and ensure full compliance with all applicable copyright laws.
  13. Sing and perform assigned music from recognized religious, ecclesiastical, or otherwise suitable publication resources appropriate for Orthodox worship.
