Job Title: Protestant Coordinator of Religious Education (PCRE)
Location: Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan
Hours: ~22 hours/week, flexible schedule with Sunday services required
Summary:
The PCRE coordinates and delivers Protestant religious education for elementary-aged children (K–5) at MCAS Iwakuni Chapel. This includes leading weekly Children’s Church, organizing annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) and holiday programs, recruiting/training volunteers, and managing program logistics and records in support of the Command Chaplain’s ministry.
Key Duties:
Lead or supervise 52 weekly Children’s Church sessions per year.
Plan and conduct 2 annual holiday specials (Christmas & Easter).
Organize and run a 3-day summer VBS program.
Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise chapel volunteers; ensure completion of background checks per DoDI 1402.05.
Manage program administration, budgeting, supply procurement, facility reservations, and audiovisual setup.
Maintain volunteer rosters, attendance records, and program reports; submit monthly/annual reports to the Chaplain.
Coordinate event publicity and marketing materials with Chapel Staff.
Ensure compliance with safety and facility requirements aboard MCAS Iwakuni.
Qualifications:
Certification in Child or Youth Ministry from a recognized Christian denomination (required).
Experience in Protestant children’s ministry leadership, volunteer management, and event planning.
Completion of child protection training (e.g., Safe Church, Ministry Safe).
Strong organizational, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with chapel staff and volunteers.
