Duties:

  • Patrol the Mare Island facility, including piers, historic ships, and buildings, ensuring the safety and security of park assets, staff, and visitors.
  • Conduct inspections of ships, bilges, moorings, and dock lines, maintaining awareness of maritime operations and safety procedures.
  • Enforce access control by monitoring and securing entrances, ensuring unauthorized personnel do not enter restricted areas.
  • Respond to security incidents such as unauthorized docking, intrusions, and emergencies by following established NPS protocols and notifying appropriate authorities.
  • Operate NPS-issued two-way radios, ensuring continuous communication with park personnel and responding to emergencies as necessary.
  • Document all patrols, incidents, and observations in detailed shift reports and logbooks.
  • Assist with the safety and coordination of public events and education programs on board historic ships and park facilities.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years of experience in security, maritime, or facility protection.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to patrol maritime environments, including working on piers, gangways, and ship decks.
  • Strong observational skills with the ability to identify and address security risks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with NPS staff, visitors, and law enforcement personnel.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties, including patrolling on foot, climbing ladders, and responding to emergency situations.
