Catholic Priest (Roman Catholic Liturgical Ministry Support)

Schedule:
Part-time services performed in accordance with the published worship schedule. The Priest will celebrate Sunday Mass, Holy Day services, Sacrament of Reconciliation, Baptisms, Matrimony, Emergency Anointing of the Sick, First Holy Communion, Confirmation support, and other required Catholic ministry services throughout the contract period.

Summary:

The Catholic Priest is responsible for providing comprehensive Roman Catholic liturgical and sacramental ministry in support of the U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Italy Vicenza Military Community. Services include celebrating Mass, administering the Sacraments, providing pastoral care, supporting religious education, and coordinating with the Religious Support Office (RSO), Government Catholic Priest, Chaplains, Religious Affairs Specialists, and designated Government personnel. The Priest will perform all ministry in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), and the requirements of the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS).

Requirements:

  • Ordained Priest of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Active ecclesiastical endorsement from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).
  • Faculties accepted or granted by the AMS Archbishop.
  • Ability to celebrate Catholic Mass and administer the Sacraments in accordance with the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Religious Support Office (RSO), Chaplains, Religious Affairs Specialists, Parish Council, and Government representatives.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain installation access and successfully complete all required background checks.
  • Ability to complete required Army training, including Anti-Terrorism (AT), OPSEC, iWATCH, and Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) training, as required under the contract.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and pastoral care skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional conduct while supporting military religious programs.

Duties:

  • Celebrate weekly, daily, and Holy Day Catholic Masses in accordance with the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM).
  • Administer the Sacraments, including:
    • Reconciliation (Confession)
    • Baptism
    • Matrimony
    • Eucharist
    • Emergency Anointing of the Sick
  • Provide pastoral care, counseling, hospital visitation, home visitation, funeral ministry, and ministry to the sick.
  • Support First Holy Communion and participate in Confirmation Masses as coordinated by the Government Catholic Priest.
  • Serve as the Catholic Subject Matter Expert (SME) when no Government Catholic Priest is assigned.
  • Oversee Catholic religious instruction and catechesis in accordance with United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) conformity requirements when serving as the SME.
  • Coordinate ministry activities with the Religious Support Office (RSO), Government Catholic Priest, Chaplains, Religious Affairs Specialists, and designated Government personnel.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before scheduled services to ensure proper preparation and successful execution of worship services.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct consistent with the values and standards of the Army Chaplain Corps.
  • Protect confidential information and comply with all applicable privacy requirements.
  • Report issues affecting contract performance to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Complete all required administrative actions, security requirements, and mandatory training associated with contract performance.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS), Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) requirements, Army regulations, and applicable Federal contract requirements.
