The Catholic Mass Music Director/Musician provides musical leadership for the 0900 Sunday Catholic Mass and other designated liturgical services at Langley AFB Chapel. This position is responsible for directing, accompanying, and coordinating sacred music that enhances the liturgy, fosters congregational participation, and maintains reverence in accordance with Catholic liturgical guidelines.
Provide organ, piano, vocal, and/or instrumental accompaniment for the 0900 Sunday Mass and special Catholic services (e.g., Holy Days of Obligation, funerals).
Select and prepare liturgically appropriate music, subject to approval by the Catholic Priest.
Conduct and lead weekly rehearsals for choir members, cantors, and instrumentalists (minimum 60 minutes, not immediately before Mass).
Recruit, train, and direct volunteer choir members, instrumentalists, and cantors.
Lead congregational singing and ensure active worship participation.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music, or equivalent liturgical music experience.
Experience:
Demonstrated ability to play organ/keyboard in Catholic liturgical settings.
Proficiency in Gregorian Chant, polyphonic music, and sacred repertoire preferred.
Experience leading choirs, cantors, and congregational singing.
Strong skills in music selection, teaching, and rehearsal preparation.
Technical Skills: Ability to operate chapel sound system; sight-reading and teaching music.
Professional Skills: Ability to coordinate with clergy and volunteers; strong organizational and communication abilities; familiarity with military protocol.
