Certified ASL Interpreter – Secret Clearance

Schedule:

Ad-hoc position. Work schedule will vary based on Government interpreting requests. Assignments may occur during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional support for meetings, trainings, interviews, briefings, special events, and other official Government activities.

The interpreter must maintain availability to support scheduled assignments and short-notice requests as required. Work may be performed onsite at the DLA Headquarters McNamara Headquarters Complex, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, or other approved locations within the designated service area.


Summary:

The Certified ASL Interpreter – Secret Clearance / Specialty will provide professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services in support of Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees, applicants, and customers within a secure federal government environment.

This position supports assignments requiring an interpreter who possesses both the required ASL interpreting qualifications and a minimum Secret security clearance. The interpreter will facilitate accurate communication during meetings, training sessions, interviews, briefings, and other official activities while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with Government security requirements.

The interpreter will follow professional interpreting standards, including the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct, while ensuring reliable and accessible communication services.


Requirements:

  • Active ASL interpreter certification or qualification, including RID NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master, CI, or CT; or NAD Level III, IV, or V certification.
  • Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain the required clearance when requested by the Government.
  • Professional experience providing ASL interpreting services in government, professional, technical, or secure environments.

Duties:

  • Provide certified ASL interpreting services for Government meetings, training sessions, interviews, briefings, and other official events.
  • Interpret accurately between spoken English and ASL to ensure effective communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
  • Perform specialty interpreting assignments requiring a Secret clearance as requested by the Government.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive, proprietary, and Government information encountered during assignments.
  • Coordinate with scheduling personnel and the Government point of contact regarding assignments, changes, early completion, and reassignment.
