Job Description: Command Historian (Archives Management)

Location: Fort Liberty, NC 28310

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the integration of historical material into the archive for the XVIII Airborne Corps Chief of Staff Office.
  2. Analyze and supervise the movement of documents from the archival office to the headquarters for processing.
  3. Appraise material for inclusion in the archive, ensuring its historical significance and relevance.
  4. Supervise the disposal of records not selected for inclusion, following established protocols and regulations.
  5. Establish the format for the archive, ensuring consistency and ease of access for researchers and staff.
  6. Preserve and maintain records, implementing appropriate archival techniques and strategies.
  7. Supervise the preparation of an archival catalogue and other materials to assist researchers in navigating the collection and understanding its contents.
  8. Continuously integrate new materials into the Command Historian's unified format, ensuring consistency across the archive.
  9. Provide expertise at key record management and liaison meetings, contributing insights and recommendations.
  10. Conduct orientations of the archive, sharing knowledge and providing guidance to staff and researchers.
  11. Retrieve specific documents from the XVIII Airborne Corps Fort Liberty Archive as requested, ensuring prompt and accurate delivery.
  12. Adhere to legal and ethical standards in all aspects of archives management, including confidentiality and privacy of sensitive materials.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in History, Archives Management, or a related field.
  2. Extensive experience in archives management, including integration, appraisal, disposal, preservation, and cataloging.
  3. Knowledge of archival best practices, standards, and techniques.
  4. Familiarity with records management principles and regulations.
  5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise archival catalogues and materials.
  7. Proficiency in using archival software and systems for cataloging and retrieval.
  8. Ability to work independently and in a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  9. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and researchers.
  10. Knowledge of military history and the XVIII Airborne Corps is preferred.
  11. Experience in retrieving specific documents from archives or similar repositories.
  12. Adherence to professional and ethical standards in archives management.
