Position: Part-time
Duties:
  • Conduct two sessions weekly to educate attendees on Japanese culture, covering aspects such as history, customs, etiquette, government, shopping, holidays, art, religion, entertainment, and lifestyles.
  • Develop and conduct special lessons on Japanese culture, including tea ceremony demonstrations, kimono dressing demonstrations, and classical dancing performances.
  • Prepare and deliver cultural awareness briefings for visiting teams, newcomers, and distinguished visitors.
  • Assist students in understanding Japanese mannerisms and lifestyles, and assess their needs to design appropriate lesson plans.
  • Utilize audiovisual materials and develop handouts necessary for accomplishing lesson objectives.
  • Assist military members and spouses with translation of forms, applications, passport applications, etc.
Requirements:
  • A four-year college degree in any field.
  • Specialized training and certification in cultural or related program areas (e.g., Instructor or Professor of Tea Ceremony, Kimono dressing).
  • Experience in delivering cultural presentations.
  • Some knowledge of military customs, lifestyle, practices, procedures, and terminology is desirable.
  • Comfortable speaking in public in both Japanese and English, with the ability to perform near-simultaneous translation.
  • Capable of planning, designing, and delivering instruction using multimedia capabilities such as audio, video, and computer-generated materials.
