Duties:
- Directs all worship music at the Protestant worship service.
- Have overall musical directorship to include but not limited to recruitment of members, rehearsals, and choir direction.
- Collaborate musical selections with the Chaplain and the Sunday Catholic Mass Music Accompanist.
- Lead the choir and congregation as cantor in worship and vocally lead.
- Sing music from a religious music, ecclesiastical, or suitable type publication resource consistent with the nature of the Catholic Mass.
- Provide arranged, improved, and scored music as appropriate for compatibility with the type of Mass or other functions of the Chaplain’s program at which it was rendered.
- Conduct one weekly rehearsal with choir members at an appropriate time to allow for maximum participation amongst its members.
- Provide the Ranking Catholic Chaplain or his designee with a written plan of music for the Liturgical Year, including Holy Days and special celebrations.
- Organize and direct informal efforts to familiarize congregation with new and alternative music as presented in the protestant tradition.
- While in the performance of their duties, must wear appropriate professional business attire. Must present a neat and clean image.
- Function as a musical representative to the protestant advisor counsel.
Qualification/ Education:
- Have 2 or more years of post-secondary or higher education in music (or related field), or equivalent years of related experience in a chapel/church setting.
- Be able to sing and vocally lead congregation in choral music in keeping with the liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the reading and interpretation of vocal and instrumental scores to include Gregorian Chant, traditional hymns, and appropriate contemporary music. The use of Latin will conform to standard ecclesiastical pronunciation.
- Demonstrate a familiarity with and knowledge of Catholic Faith and Liturgical needs and practices.
