Job Title: Catholic Priest

Location: Dyess AFB, TX

Duties:

  • Shall, plan, organize, and direct the activities of the base chapel Catholic community, ensuring that the Catholic program complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Shall provide administrative support, religious services, and pastoral care.
  • Shall develop goals and objectives that support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Shall, with the approval of the Wing Chaplain, establish periods for Catholic worship, provide proper liturgical environment, and conduct scheduled eucharistic services as well as devotions, prayer services, sacramental rites, religious education, and formation.
  • Shall prepare and deliver homilies/sermons. He must also prepare and submit worship bulletins for reproduction to the Parish Liturgy Assistant or equivalent designee.
  • Shall provide sacramental ministry to all seeking Catholic military members and their family members to include the services of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the sick and/or Viaticum.
  • Shall be accessible to Catholic individuals requiring the services of a Roman Catholic priest.
  • Shall attend monthly Parish Pastoral Advisory Council meetings and Wing Chapel weekly staff meetings to report on the Catholic Parish ministry. He must also attend all scheduled liturgy meetings as necessary, to assist in coordination of dates, times, and places of all parish liturgies.
  • Shall, with the assistance of the Catholic Community Coordinator, review and make suggestions on the annual budget and monthly budget reports for the Parish Pastoral Council or Parish Activity Council as well as, facility and purchase requests for programs and materials.
  • Shall serve as a member of the Chapel Financial Working Group (CFWG), to present the faith group program plan (annual budget).
  • Shall maintain confidentiality in all areas of Privileged Communications as defined by HQ USAF/HC and in the Military Rules of Evidence.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a duly ordained Roman Catholic priest in good standing with the bishop of his diocese or the superior of his religious order in the Catholic Church.
  • Must provide written documentation stating that he has the approval of his diocesan bishop or religious superior to provide services as a priest as well as provide written documentation of Ecclesiastical Endorsement from the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), USA.
  • Must be knowledgeable of scriptures, liturgy, and doctrine of the Roman Catholic faith and Canon law.
  • Must be knowledgeable of providing pastoral care in a diverse and pluralistic military religious environment, including counseling.
  • Must be able to oversee a comprehensive Catholic religious education and formation program for the local installation and associated community.
  • Shall have knowledge of military protocol or be willing to learn such to facilitate the needs of the Air Force community.
  • Shall possess computer skills with a working knowledge of: Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Power Point and Desktop Publishing.
  • Shall possess written and verbal English language proficiency.
  • Must be able to work with chaplains and Religious Affairs Airmen in an ecumenical/interfaith setting.
  • Must have a residential and/or cellular phone and be willing to supply the phone number to the Chaplain Corps staff for business purposes.
  • A background in the military Catholic community and military chapel environment is highly preferred.
