Position Overview

Provide specialized cardiothoracic surgical support services, including assisting in the operating room, performing advanced procedures, and delivering direct patient care in a VA clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries (first and second assist)
Perform endoscopic vein harvesting (radial and saphenous)
Conduct procedures such as:
- Central line placement (ultrasound-guided)
- Chest tube insertion/removal
- Swan-Ganz catheter placement/removal
- Cardioversion and pacing wire removal
Support robotic and bedside surgical procedures
Document care in electronic health records (EHR)
Ensure compliance with patient safety, HIPAA, and VA standards

Qualifications

Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
Current, unrestricted medical license
BLS & ACLS certifications
Extensive cardiothoracic experience required, including:
- 100+ endoscopic vein harvesting procedures
Strong clinical, surgical, and communication skills

Schedule

Part-time: 2 days per week
6 hours per day
No on-call or off-hours required
