Job Type: Part-Time / School-Year Schedule
Location: BIE Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School, 122 East Street, Eagle Butte, South Dakota
Schedule: 3 days per week, 8 hours per day, for 44 weeks during the school year

Requirements

  • Current, valid, and unrestricted South Dakota license to independently practice as a Speech-Language Therapist.
  • Applicable professional certification as required for Speech-Language Therapy services.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a Speech-Language Therapist in a school-based setting.
  • Experience working with students with special needs.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Strong knowledge of South Dakota and Federal special education laws, regulations, and eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to independently conduct speech and language evaluations and provide therapy services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, school staff, and Special Education personnel.
  • Experience working with Native American students in reservation schools is preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully complete required background investigation/security clearance requirements.

Duties

  • Provide ongoing speech-language therapy to special education students according to their IEPs.
  • Conduct initial evaluations, reevaluations, and other required speech-language assessments.
  • Prepare evaluation reports and develop and update IEPs.
  • Participate in IEP and eligibility meetings as required.
  • Implement and monitor student goals and objectives identified in each IEP.
  • Maintain accurate student files, therapy documentation, and progress records.
  • Consult with the MTSS/problem-solving team when requested.
  • Complete evaluations within required State and Federal timelines.
  • Provide training or guidance to school staff and parents on speech-language topics when requested.
  • Recommend appropriate therapeutic equipment and resources based on individual student needs.
  • Remain available for consultation when not on-site when requested by the school.
  • Coordinate closely with the Special Education Director, School Supervisor, teachers, students, and parents to ensure continuity of services.
