Job Title: Phlebotomist
Location: 51st Medical Group (51 MDG), Osan Air Base, Pyeongtaek, Republic of Korea
Type of Job: Full-Time Position
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, including a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Work may also be required during base exercises, foreign holidays, or as directed by the Government.
Summary:
The Phlebotomist is responsible for providing professional blood collection and laboratory support services for the 51st Medical Group at Osan Air Base. The position involves collecting blood specimens, processing laboratory requests, maintaining patient records, supporting laboratory operations, and ensuring compliance with Defense Health Agency (DHA) policies, infection control standards, and Military Treatment Facility procedures.
Minimum Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy course consisting of at least 120 didactic hours or an equivalent qualifying education recognized under the solicitation amendment.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 1,040 hours of experience as a Phlebotomy Technician within the last three (3) years.
- Experience using a medical health information system.
- Successfully performed at least 50 venipunctures using straight and butterfly needles and 10 skin punctures.
- Laboratory experience as a Clinical Technologist, Medical Technologist, Clinical Pathologist, or Nurse may qualify if the required phlebotomy experience is met.
Certifications:
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Course C certification or
- Current American Red Cross CPR/BLS certification.
Duties:
- Collect blood specimens through venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, and skin puncture techniques.
- Prepare patients and verify laboratory test requirements before specimen collection.
- Label, process, and transport specimens accurately and within required timeframes.
- Enter laboratory orders and patient information into the electronic medical record system.
- Perform timed blood collection procedures and instruct patients on specimen collection.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and provide appropriate first aid when necessary.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventory levels.
- Answer laboratory inquiries and assist healthcare providers with routine laboratory information.
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and patient records.
- Follow infection control, patient safety, HIPAA, and Military Treatment Facility policies and procedures.
- Support front desk and administrative laboratory operations as assigned.
