Duties:

  • Mow all hunting trails prior to the hunting season and perform other maintenance to ensure appropriate and safe access.
  •  Post hunting related signs, as determined necessary by the Refuge Manager, throughout the Refuge
  • Open and clean pit blinds.
  •  Work a schedule of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday, Thanksgiving, and New Year’s Day. Days off will be Thursdays, Fridays, and other Federal Holidays.
  • On non-hunt days provide the necessary reporting on all hunt statistics for the website, answer calls, keep the hunt area maintained, reconcile all fees with the headquarters in Burbank and provide support to the refuge staff as needed.
  • Check Station until 9:00 am on hunting days and again from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  • Be responsible for summarizing the data collected on hunt permits into a database.
  • Travel to McNary National Wildlife Refuge each Monday to deliver receipts and reconcile accounts.
  • The applicant shall complete post-season reports, clean-up, and sign removal.

Education/Qualification:

  • Live within a 20-mile radius of the refuge.
  •  Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of refuge and state hunting regulations
  • Be able to handle themselves in difficult situations and have excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Have FWS tractor operators training.
  • Be willing to work weekends, arrive as early as 5:00 am, and work in inclement weather, including snow, freezing rain and temperatures as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Be able to walk over uneven surfaces and lift to 50 pounds.
