Job Description: Liturgist/Organist
Location: C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, Building 2, Floor 1, Room SP112 Bay Pines, FL 33744
Key Responsibilities:
- Shall read religious music, play the organ, and lead the congregation in singing in worship.
- Shall provide all organ music associated with the Catholic Mass worship and provide preludes, postludes, anthems, and service music in accordance with the Catholic Liturgical Calendar, Liturgical Readings, and Seasons.
- Shall provide interment services on an as-needed basis. A notification of minimum twenty-four (24) hours shall be provided prior to the interment service. If the Contractor is unable to provide the interment service, a satisfactory substitute shall be provided.
- Shall coordinate with and recommend to the Catholic Staff Chaplain on all organ music and songs for each Mass/service, as well as the special/seasonal Masses/services.
- Shall set up the microphones and the audio system.
- Shall set up the chapel for Sunday worship with the linen and cruciments as prescribed by the Catholic Liturgical Calendar.
- Shall establish a rapport with the congregation.
- Shall provide in advance the music plan for all regular and special/seasonal Masses/services, when possible.
- Shall work closely with the Catholic Chaplain Staff in developing the worship atmosphere through appropriate introductory music and providing appropriate music in celebration and closing.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Shall provide written evidence of at least five (2) years of current experience as an organist in a military chapel or civilian church.
- Shall possess a level of musicianship to include the ability to read and sight-read musical text, shall be able to play the piano or organ, and be able to transpose musical text up and down the scale at sight.
- Shall demonstrate keyboard proficiency in playing hymns and service music.
- Shall successfully pass a background check allowing access to a Federal Facility.
- Shall provide a Letter of Recommendation from where you have performed (not less than 2 years) as an organist in a military chapel or civilian church, attached with quote.
