Job Title: Catholic Coordinator of Religious Education. 

Job Type: Part time, 15 hours per week. 

Job Location: JEB Little Creek Chapel VA, 23459. 

Duties: 

  • Perform weekly Catholic Coordinator of Religious Education function to active-duty personnel and all other authorized personnel. 

  • Investigate new approaches to Religious Education and methods consistent with the cultural and education environment of the Navy community. 

  • Provide for continuous teacher recruitment and training and leadership development for teachers, assistant teachers, office coordinators, and social coordinators to ensure adequate volunteer/staff personnel competence. Shall ensure that all teachers are Certified Catechist and that all volunteers have had Protecting God’s Children Training in compliance with the Catholic Bishops Dallas Charter. 

  • Supervise classes of instruction for students from pre-school through high school age. Classes shall be held on Sundays. 

  • Coordinate and supervise Adult Education Classes to include Confirmation preparations, RCIA Program and Baptismal Preparation Classes for parents. Recruit and train Extraordinary Ministers of Communion for all Catholic Masses. 

  • Shall design, prepare, and coordinate the curriculum calendar of classes and academic/religious events observed throughout the calendar year. 

  • Set up and maintain a schedule that shall meet the needs of each facet of religious education regarding the time and place for workshop training, teachers’ meetings, parent conferences, and special events observing the Catholic religious holidays. 

  • Maintain files on official church records for all students enrolled in the Catholic religious education programs. 

  • Prepare and direct conferences and special meetings with parents involving religious education instruction. 

  • Conduct interviews of parents for registration regarding the placement of their children as to the proper level of Catholic Religious Education. 

  • Attend weekly JEBLCFS Chapel staff meetings. 

  • Report to the Command Chaplain as necessary and provide recommendations and scheduling requirements 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Must have 1-year minimum experience as a volunteer or contract religious ministry professional serving within a DoD (Department of Defense) sponsored religious ministry program. 

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in teaching children in Catholic Religious Education. 

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience with Catholic ministries.
