Artillery Conservator

 Location: San Juan National Historic Site, Puerto Rico 

Schedule: Part-time 

Duties: 

  • Conduct stabilization, rinsing, removal of concretions, and application of inhibitors and finish coatings on historical artillery pieces. 

  • Supervise the preparation of chemical solutions and perform electrolytic reduction treatments. 

  • Monitor chloride levels and adjust treatment processes accordingly. 

  • Document treatment processes and provide monthly progress reports. 

  • Coordinate with material analysis specialists and ensure compliance with NPS standards and policies. 

  • Supervise volunteers and maintain detailed records of conservation activities. 

Qualification: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Museum Studies, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the conservation of metal artifacts. 

  • Knowledge of NPS standards, OSHA regulations, and professional conservation practices. 

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
