Artillery Conservator
Location: San Juan National Historic Site, Puerto Rico
Schedule: Part-time
Duties:
Conduct stabilization, rinsing, removal of concretions, and application of inhibitors and finish coatings on historical artillery pieces.
Supervise the preparation of chemical solutions and perform electrolytic reduction treatments.
Monitor chloride levels and adjust treatment processes accordingly.
Document treatment processes and provide monthly progress reports.
Coordinate with material analysis specialists and ensure compliance with NPS standards and policies.
Supervise volunteers and maintain detailed records of conservation activities.
Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Museum Studies, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the conservation of metal artifacts.
Knowledge of NPS standards, OSHA regulations, and professional conservation practices.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
