Job Summary: The School Counselor will be responsible for providing counseling services to students, conducting consultations with staff, and participating in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for special education students with behavioral referrals. The counselor will maintain detailed service logs for each student and visit and provide quarterly progress reports. This role will involve collaboration with the Special Education Department to review IEPs, determine scheduling, and adhere to procedural guidelines. Counseling referrals will come from parents or school personnel. All counseling services will be delivered in person on the school campus, with sessions lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes and covering one-on-one, small group, full-class, or emergency intervention settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Counseling: Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students, addressing a range of emotional, behavioral, and academic issues.
Consultation: Collaborate with school staff, teachers, and parents to develop strategies for supporting students' emotional and social well-being.
IEP Participation: Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings for special education students referred for behavioral concerns.
Service Logging: Maintain detailed service logs for each student and visit, recording session content, progress, and outcomes.
Progress Reporting: Prepare quarterly progress reports for each student receiving counseling services, summarizing their achievements and challenges.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Special Education department to review IEPs, coordinate scheduling, and ensure compliance with procedural guidelines.
Referral Management: Receive and process counseling referrals from parents or school personnel, assessing the urgency and appropriateness of interventions.
In-Person Service: Deliver all counseling services in person on the school campus, adhering to safety and health guidelines.
Session Variability: Conduct counseling sessions that may include one-on-one, small group, full-class, or emergency intervention as needed.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling, School Counseling, or a related field.
- State licensure or certification as a School Counselor.
- Experience in providing counseling services to students, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of IEP processes and special education regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
- Flexibility and adaptability to diverse student needs.
- Familiarity with counseling techniques and intervention strategies.
