Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Operations Research and Probability Instructor to lead our course for the United States Department of Defense (DoD) during the Fall Quarter Academic Year 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive program to 15 Computer Science officers, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to support the DoD in decision-making processes through Operations Research, data analysis, and probability techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
Course Delivery: Conduct live, in-person lectures for four hours a week, typically scheduled from Monday through Thursday, following a structured curriculum.
Content Development: Create and update course materials, including lectures, assignments, quizzes, and projects, to align with the course objectives and the unique needs of the DoD.
Programming Proficiency: Facilitate the development of programming skills in "R" among students, ensuring they can efficiently mine and analyze data.
Probability Instruction: Provide advanced instruction in probability and statistics, emphasizing their applications in military decision-making processes.
Student Engagement: Foster a dynamic and interactive learning environment, encouraging student participation, discussion, and collaboration.
Assessment: Design assessments, quizzes, assignments, and a final examination to evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback.
Individual Support: Offer office hours and one-on-one guidance to students, addressing their questions and concerns.
Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in programming with "R" and a strong background in data analysis.
- Previous experience in teaching, preferably in a military or academic setting.
- Expertise in Operations Research principles, military decision-making, and probability techniques.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
